This $7.6 million project by the Michigan Department of Transportation relied heavily on community partnership and a close relationship with the City of Rochester to upgrade M-150, a classic American main street, making the route more convenient for drivers and more attractive to the community.
MDOT completely reconstructed a half mile of Main Street from new sidewalks and guardrail replacement to new traffic signals. Work also included decorative fencing, new lighting, landscaping, new signage, and other small projects. A partnership was formed between MDOT, the City of Rochester, and various contractors and community members. With four years of planning, the development of a marketing plan, and weekly and daily meetings for project updates, the Main Street Makeover was completed in just seven months.
