Illinois Department of Transportation’s $425 million Red Line Reconstruction Project updated a section of one of Chicago’s major transit lines to improve the lives of those on Chicago’s South Side. The project improved several Red Line stations and track resulting in better reliability, improved facilities, and lower operating and maintenance costs. By completely closing the southern portion of the Red Line, construction took just five months versus four years using traditional weekend-only construction, saving $75 million and dramatically cutting rider inconvenience.
