Pennsylvania Department of Transportation – Traffic Incident Management for the 2015 Papal Visit

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s $1.4 investment into logistics and traffic coordination efforts surrounding Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia, minimized travel impacts and provided safe travel conditions to more than a million visitors, and more than 400,000 commuters, freight operators and residents traveling the streets of Philadelphia during the three-day historic occasion. Through strategic coordination and outreach with government organizations, transit agencies, port and tolling authorities, event coordinators and adjacent state departments of transportation, travelers experienced no significant delays, participants arrived to their destinations safely and roads were opened on time early Monday morning.
