Texas Department of Transportation’s $38 million project improved traffic flow and reduced congestion by constructing an elevated roundabout to link US 85 over a bridge and across I-10 to the University of Texas at El Paso campus. The roundabout increased connectivity to nearby Mesa Street and the Sunset Heights and Kern Place neighborhoods. It also improved travel conditions for pedestrians and cyclists by separating them from vehicular traffic via a tunnel that connects them to UTEP campus parking facilities. The project will facilitate the university’s expansion plans; improve access to special events, medical facilities and business centers along the Mesa Corridor.
