South-central Wisconsin experienced severe flooding in June 2008 which overtopped a dam, sending water surging across County Trunk Highway A. The flood destroyed a 600-foot-wide section of the roadway, an important emergency link to the area. Wisconsin DOT was able to complete the reconstruction of the roadway in only four months, reopening the highway in time for Thanksgiving.
