Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Stamford Parking Garage

The Connecticut Department of Transportation said the original Stamford Parking Garage, built in 1984 for Connecticut’s busiest rail station, had deteriorated and left only 200 of the original 1,200 parking spaces usable. The $81 million new garage enhanced the multimodal aspects of the Stamford Transportation Center. It includes 928 parking spaces with direct access to the New York City-bound platform, a pedestrian bridge to the existing train station, and a level-by-level parking availability system with signage.

Additional features include easy pay on-foot stations, 95 Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations, and 120 covered bicycle parking spots. This includes 50 Bike-Keep spaces — secure bicycle parking areas that allow cyclists to safely store and charge their e-bikes—along with space for a proposed connection to the walking path by the Rippowan River. Constructed on a non-buildable lot sandwiched between I-95, New Haven Line railroad, Rippowan River, Washington Boulevard, and South State Street, the new garage also features a unique façade and programmable decorative lighting system equipped with 190,000 LED lights.
