Delaware Department of Transportation’s Phase 1 of Park Avenue Relocation Project

Delaware Department of Transportation engaged in the Park Avenue Relocation Project to improve traffic operations and safety along the U.S. 9 truck route near Georgetown, DE. The completed $31 million project provides safer and more convenient road access for all members of the community, while local businesses benefit from improved truck access and allowance for an extension of runway 4-22 at the Delaware Coastal Airport. Residents benefited from rerouting truck traffic away from residential areas, maintaining and improving property access along S. Bedford Street, and providing new multimodal facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. The project also enhanced roadway connections for future housing development and improved safety at a relocated at-grade railroad crossing.
