New York State Department of Transportation’s Bruckner-Hutch Mobility Improvement Project

This New York Department of Transportation project improves safety and reduces congestion on the northbound I-95 Bruckner Expressway, addressing the lack of direct highway access for the Co-Op City community and unsafe ramp crossings for pedestrians and cyclists near the I-95/Pelham Parkway Interchange. The $33 million project addressed these issues by removing three of the six existing ramp connections and building new entrance ramps from both eastbound and westbound Pelham Parkway to northbound I-95. It also included a new access ramp from northbound Hutchinson River Parkway, providing direct access to the Co-op City community and the Bay Plaza shopping center. Those improvements resulted in reduced traffic delays, crashes, vehicles emissions, and noise. The project also improved bicycle and pedestrian safety by realigning shared-use paths, adding ADA-compliant signalized crossings, and installing lighting at ramp crossings to enhance visibility and access to Bronx Pelham Bay Park.
