This New York State Department of Transportation project created direct access for motorists and commercial vehicles from the Long Island Expressway (LIE) to Crooked Hill Road to reduce significant traffic congestion. Three main intersections impacted by the congestion along the LIE service roads include Commack Road, Crooked Hill Road, and Wicks Road. The LIE handles an average of 120,000 vehicles daily and 58,000 vehicles daily on its service roads. This $27 million project resulted in better traffic flow, improved mobility and access within the project corridor, plus enhanced overall traffic operations. Motorist access has been improved to the nearby shopping center and industrial parks. The project also provides ease of access for the future major developments within the area. This modernized interchange project was one of the most significant upgrades to the LIE since the 1990s; creating smoother travel conditions and more direct access to many of the area’s most visited businesses as well as nearby recreational and educational destinations.
