Indiana Department of Transportation’s 20-Year Asset Management System tracks the history and future needs of every road and bridge asset in one place. Originally created to give leadership a clear view of asset plans, the system has evolved into a tool for managing assets, visualizing long-term plans, and identifying potential project conflicts—such as overlapping detours.
This system supports compliance with federal requirements. Under the law Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act and its updates through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), all state DOTs must create a risk-based Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP). TAMP outlines how states manage bridges and pavements, focusing on preservation and long-term planning. At no cost, Indiana DOT’s 20-Year Asset System exceeds the required 10-year planning window, helping ensure smarter, more coordinated infrastructure decisions.
