This U.S. Route 160 Intersection Improvements project exemplifies the best use of technology innovation by implementing a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) and a Continuous Green-T Intersection (CGT) to optimize traffic movement, reduce congestion and enhance safety, and showcases a forward-thinking approach to managing high-traffic areas efficiently. The project addressed high traffic volumes and frequent crashes at the intersections of U.S. Route 160 with Christian County Routes CC and AA. Between 2014 and 2018, the Route 160/CC intersection had 80 crashes, primarily rear-end collisions, while the Route 160/AA intersection saw 66 crashes. Improvements were needed to enhance safety, reduce congestion, and improve traffic flow. Costing $12.4 million in total, these designs helped manage high traffic volumes, reduce congestion, and decrease the likelihood of crashes. Residents found the new intersections easier to navigate and considered them necessary improvements. The IIJA made $9.3 million available to this Missouri Department of Transportation-led project. Without this project funding being made available, the project could not have been completed. Drivers and pedestrians benefited from improved traffic flow, reduced congestion, and enhanced safety of updates made to U.S. Route 160 intersections.
