As part of Ohio’s Eastern Corridor projects, the SR 32 Green T intersection addressed a critical safety need with a cost-effective solution. Led by the Ohio Department of Transportation, the $4.5 million project targeted an intersection that saw 73 crashes in just 2.5 years—15% involving injuries. Crash trends included angle collisions at Eight Mile Road, fixed-object crashes on eastbound SR 32, and rear-end crashes on westbound SR 32 approaching a steep 7% grade.
The Green T design significantly improved traffic flow, reducing delay by 75%. Westbound through traffic now bypasses the signal, and motorists on Eight Mile no longer wait for large gaps to turn, resulting in shorter queues and less idling.
In addition to fuel savings, safety improvements have yielded substantial cost benefits. Pre-construction estimates using the Economic Crash Analysis Tool (ECAT) projected a $75,000 safety benefit. Post-construction data shows an even greater reduction in crashes, exceeding those predictions.
