Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities’ Alaska Project Exchange or APEX

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities had two separate systems for road weather (511) and construction conditions, known together as Alaska Navigator, that were repetitive and lacked critical information that users needed. To address this, the Alaska DOT&PF introduced the Alaska Project Exchange (APEX) system, powered by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) products and cloud-based tools, to enhance communication internally and externally. APEX integrates data across platforms, including editing tools, online forms for traffic updates, and automatic updates to Alaska 511. It also allows for media submissions to a geo-referenced database. This $1 million initiative significantly improved customer service by providing immediate access to project details, reducing the need for office visits or multiple inquiries. Users, including legislative offices, benefited from faster access to Alaska DOT&PF databases, improving research connections and communication with constituents.
