With an initial investment of $40 billion – now increased to $66 billion – the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is constructing a significant factory in Arizona, which will create thousands of jobs and attract a surge of commuters. In response, the Arizona Department of Transportation and its local partners expedited the construction of traffic interchanges at 43rd and 51st avenues to ease traffic flow and support regional economic growth; including improved access to the TSMC facility. The $70 million interchange project has enhanced access to both sides of Loop 303 for future development by Phoenix and Maricopa counties. This venture aims to alleviate future congestion as more businesses and services, like healthcare and housing, emerge near Lake Pleasant and other surrounding areas. The crossroads under Loop 303 adhere to Phoenix’s infrastructure standards; featuring sidewalks, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant features, and bicycle lanes. Those interchanges are also constructed to accommodate various modes of transportation – including transit, such as bus service – as the city of Phoenix expands its economic development efforts in the region.
