Indiana Department of Transportation’s Domain: Maintenance Operations or D:MO project reimagined the agency’s maintenance operations by implementing a statewide, Salesforce-powered platform that streamlines workflows and improves agency response times.
The $12.7 million system efficiently allocates resources, adapts to staffing changes, and reduces reliance on over-customized software – enabling faster and more effective staff training. By modernizing maintenance management, D:MO helps INDOT respond more quickly to public needs, stay better prepared for future technology upgrades, and minimize redundant spending. This ultimately enhances service delivery across Indiana’s transportation system – which includes more than 28,000 lane miles and 5,700 bridges – and improves the experience of each motorist throughout the entire state.
This real-time field reporting, mobile access, and GIS-enabled location data allow crews to quickly detect and correct asset conditions.
This includes pavement failures, blocked culverts, shoulder drop-offs, and bridge maintenance issues. By supporting proactive and preventative maintenance – rather than reactive repairs – D:MO reduces emergency closures, improves asset reliability, and minimizes traffic disruptions. Completing the D:MO project is also poised to save the agency – and taxpayers – $7.3 million annually.
