The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s rehabilitation of the Crawford Avenue Bridge in Connellsville, PA, extended the bridge’s lifespan, enhanced safety for all users, and introduced a shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. As a vital link between the East and West Sides of Connellsville, the bridge’s improvements enhanced multimodal mobility and community connectivity while preserving a critical transportation asset for the future. The $16 million revitalized bridge also enhances access to key regional transportation links, including the Great Allegheny Passage and Amtrak; supporting tourism and local businesses. The IIJA benefitted this project via $2.4 million in new Bridge Investment Program funding; allowing dedicated bridge funds to support rehabilitation while freeing up other federal funds for additional regional infrastructure improvements.
