INDOT’s construction of the displaced left turn (DLT) intersection has alleviated congestion and reduced delays experienced by travelers using U.S. 31. This $4.9 million project has successfully reduced congestion in the area while also improving safety for motorists traveling on both U.S. 31 and I-465. Delays experienced by travelers have been minimized, while queueing onto the interstate has been eliminated. The DLT has improved safety by eliminating the need for motorists to navigate left turns within the intersection. Furthermore, the DLT has reduced traffic delays by allowing left-turning traffic and through traffic to proceed through the main intersection simultaneously, eliminating the extra time traditionally needed to accommodate left turns at a standard intersection.
