Maryland Department of Transportation’s US 1 from Charles Armentrout Drive to Farragut Street-Bicycle-Pedestrian Route

In Hyattsville, MD, this $6.4 million project upgraded highway facilities to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards and enhance pedestrian and bicycle access. Led by Maryland Department of Transportation, this project addressed safety issues and improved trail network connectivity along the half-mile path linking the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail to the Anacostia Tributary Trail System. The project included a “road diet” on US 1 to create a safety buffer between the northbound lane and the new 10-foot wide shared-use path. This trail now provides safer passage for commuters, neighbors, and visitors, linking major trails and public transport. It also forms part of the East Coast Greenway.
