The $16.5 million project created a safe and connected community for all transportation users in Ypsilanti – a historically diverse city. The effort yielded 3 miles of bike lanes, safe crosswalks, and enhanced 5 perilous intersections on state roads. The project removed a barrier to safe travel to employment, recreation, and other amenities by residents and visitors who do not own a car. These new facilities advance local objectives, enhancing the city-wide multimodal network, promoting active transportation, and nurturing a just transit system. Recent urban expansion, particularly a hotel near the junction, generated jobs and bettered accessibility. Neighborhoods were seamlessly connected to job centers sans cars, prompting wider advocacy and local planning for multimodal progress across the city.
