Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Trunk Highway 200 Shoulder Widening Project

Trunk Highway 200, a vital rural link between Mahnomen and Roy Lake in White Earth Nation, underwent a transformative $13.7 million upgrade. This MnDOT project stemmed from a comprehensive 2012-2018 review revealing concerns beyond safety, including narrow shoulders, poor slopes, and flooding. The enhancements encompass widened shoulders for emergency use and cyclist/pedestrian safety, clear zone extensions, space for emergency vehicle repairs, turn lanes for crash prevention, and an eight-foot shoulder and shared-use path near Roy Lake. A new bridge, pedestrian path, and grade increase improve overall mobility and accessibility, benefiting residents, travelers, and businesses while supporting local economies and equitable transportation access.
