In 2018, the Nebraska Department of Transportation teamed up with the City of Fremont, as well as various municipal and industry partners, to accelerate the Fremont Southeast Beltway project. Costing $62 million, this collaborative effort aimed to divert US-77 traffic away from the heart of the community to the new beltway, thereby enhancing traffic flow and safety while also fostering new economic opportunities for Fremont and the region around the city. The new beltway not only alleviated traffic congestion within the community, but also enhanced connectivity with US-275 and US-30, which are major corridors linking Fremont to the greater Omaha metro area. By rerouting traffic, including increased truck traffic, around the community, the project enhanced local connectivity and access while prolonging the system’s lifespan within the city limits. This project also helped alleviate traffic congestion in the Fremont area, particularly in residential and downtown areas, ensuring safer travel across all modes of transportation.
