Nebraska Department of Transportation’s I-80 Corridor Time Information Management Completion

Time Information Management or TIM is a statewide first responder training program focused on improving consistency, efficiency, and quick clearance of crashes and other incidents. Strategically implemented in communities along Nebraska’s I-80 corridor, TIM addresses longstanding challenges in emergency response. Before the Nebraska Department of Transportation introduced TIM, first responders across the state followed varying, unstandardized protocols. As a result, response times, clearance methods, and the time required to restore normal traffic conditions could differ significantly. I-80 spans the entire state and connects Nebraska’s largest communities. It is a vital transportation route for residents and a key artery for moving goods across the state. By standardizing incident response practices, TIM helps reduce the duration and risk of traffic incidents. Faster clearance means community members reach hospitals more quickly, spend less time exposed to roadway hazards, and face a lower risk of secondary collisions. Costing $1.2 million, first responders – who are also part of the state’s many far flung communities – are kept safer by minimizing their exposure to active traffic scenes.
