New Hampshire Department of Transportation’s Tamworth Bridge Rehabilitation

The $2.4 million Tamworth Bridge Rehabilitation project repaired the deteriorating bridge on NH 113A over the Swift River, which had been on the New Hampshire Department of Transportation’s ‘Red List’ of deficient bridges since 2015. Built in 1956, the bridge had significantly deteriorated; exemplified by its inclusion within the agency’s “Scour Critical Plan of Action” due to support pier erosion. In 2021, the bridge twice needed large holes in the concrete deck fixed, resulting in single-lane travel during the repair process. This rehabilitation project restored the bridge structure, preventing unexpected closures and restoring its full use to the community. This achievement boosted confidence in public infrastructure and demonstrated a commitment to addressing the community’s unique needs and concerns.
