New York State Department of Transportation’s Ravensdale Road Bridge Replacement

This $9.5 million project revitalized the Ravensdale Road Bridge over the Saw Mill River Parkway, which was crucial for enhancing access for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. The local community also faced limited accessibility to the South County Trailway, which passes beneath the bridge. As part of this initiative, the New York State Department of Transportation rehabilitated an abandoned bridge –– now serving as a new 900-foot-long access path — establishing the first-ever direct connection between the village and the heavily utilized trailway. The new sidewalks on the bridge were meticulously designed to comply with the standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act, ensuring accessibility. Additionally, the project included the installation of a bus shelter that allowed transit users a little more comfort and safety. By improving bridge conditions and facilitating community connections, this undertaking provided an upgraded and contemporary bridge with safer access for multi-modal users and a new entry point to the South County Trailway for local residents. The project was intended to benefit users of all transportation modes while reducing environmental impacts on the community.
