Ohio Department of Transportation’s I-480 Valley View Bridge Construction and Bridge Deck Replacement

The I-480 Valley View bridges, spanning 4,155 feet above the Cuyatoga River Valley in northeast Ohio, carries 180,000 vehicles daily, making them the busiest structures in the state. With the original bridges over 40 years old and at the end of their lifespan, replacing the pavement surface became a priority. This $228 billion Ohio Department of Transportation project improved the existing bridge decks and added a new bridge to address traffic maintenance concerns. The addition of two lanes in each direction has reduced congestion and backups, providing extra space for first responders and improving traffic flow during peak times.
