AHTD created this network to prioritize future highway improvements. Arkansas operates more than 16,000 miles of state highways, yet half of these miles carry 92% of vehicle miles traveled. By focusing on designated corridors that carry the most traffic, the state is better able to optimize the use of limited taxpayer dollars for repairs, maintenance, and expansion – allowing drivers to get the biggest bang for their buck.
