Rhode Island Department of Transportation–Quick Deployment of IIJA Funding

When the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) passed in November of 2021, the Rhode Island DOT received an additional $745 million in federal funding for projects to improve the lives of residents statewide. From accelerating road repairs to reducing congestion, Rhode Island DOT was able to move up the timeline of 105 transportation projects that were supposed to take place over 10 years – completing these initiatives in an average of four years. Rhode Island residents have seen more than $2.1 billion worth of projects accelerated, leading to better bridges and roads and significant additional investments in active transportation infrastructure, resilience and state of good repair projects.
