South Carolina Department of Transportation’s Closed and Load Restricted Bridge Package 2020-1

As part of its 10-year transportation plan, the South Carolina Department of Transportation prioritized improving rural road safety and bridge conditions to ensure safe usage. Consequently, a $17.9 million SCDOT project sought to rehabilitate or replace bridges that were either fully closed or posted with load restrictions to better serve the traveling public. The reopening of those bridges significantly improved mobility for local residents, offering easier access compared to when the bridges were closed or load-restricted. Community members now benefit from better access to key areas, enhancing connectivity and safety.
