South Carolina Department of Transportation’s U.S. 278 at U.S. 321 Fairfax Intersection Improvements and Streetscape

South Carolina DOT sought to make the Fairfax community safer by tackling the U.S. 278 at U.S. 321 intersection improvement and streetscape project –a game changer for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers alike. The $3.5 million project removed unsafe and unnecessary rail crossings, improved pedestrian connectivity and rehabilitated pedestrian accommodations through new sidewalks ADA compliant facilities.  With a new right-turn lane, trucks can now navigate through Fairfax more safely and easily. In addition to roadway improvements, the initiative also crafted a green space to beautify the community and provide a new gathering space for residents. The finished project also enhances the local economy by ushering in easier access to shops and businesses by foot.
