Texas Department of Transportation’s Accessibility Management Enterprise System or TAMES

Managing accessibility barriers through spreadsheets caused inefficiencies in the past for TxDOT; hindering progress on a number of projects. With $1.6 billion identified barriers, the agency developed the TxDOT Accessibility Management Enterprise System (TAMES); a $47 million solution streamlining asset evaluation and remediation. Serving as a best practice model, TAMES prioritizes projects and enhances feedback processes, impacting Texas communities by assisting decision-making for TxDOT districts, divisions, and federal fund recipients. By replacing manual tracking with smart data organization, TAMES expedites project planning – speeding up work on projects that benefit every community within TxDOT’s system. The new enterprise system improves access for all abilities, accommodating diverse travel patterns and fostering greater civic participation – ultimately promoting economic growth and enriching quality of life.
