Texas Department of Transportation’s Interstate 69 Widening Project

Led by Texas Department of Transportation, this $14 million Interstate 69 widening project in Laredo aimed to streamline commercial freight movement between the World Trade Bridge and Interstate 35, a vital route for nationwide goods delivery and trade. By enhancing capacity and operations, it eased congestion for trucks leaving the World Trade Bridge. Safety measures included shoulder widening and barrier installation. It also integrates with the upcoming World Trade Bridge expansion, adding lanes and reducing wait times by half. This project alleviated traffic for the local community living in the area, but also benefited the U.S. by expediting freight to I-35 and paving the way for future expansion of the World Trade Bridge. The I-69 expansion supports commerce and benefits the economy on a national scale. Locally, this project provided mobility and access to local residential neighborhoods and industrial parks.
