The $55 million Mall-to-Mall project in Waco, TX – spearheaded by the Texas Department of Transportation – delivered key mobility and safety improvements along a critical freight corridor in a rapidly growing industrial and commercial area. The project reconfigured entrance and exit ramps for safer highway access, connected previously discontinuous frontage roads to reduce main-lane congestion, prevent dangerous lane-to-lane traffic weaving, and widen bridges to support future expansion to six lanes. Located on State Highway 6 – which experienced a 40 percent traffic increase from 2022 to 2023 – the project overcame challenges including railroad crossings and busy business access points. Enhancements such as improved signage, lighting, and ramp geometry transformed the outdated corridor into a safer, more efficient, and community-friendly arterial route. Continuous frontage roads now offer an alternative route from I-35 to US 84, easing congestion and better serving local businesses and residents.
