Texas Department of Transportation’s US 377 Cresson Relief Route

The US 377 Cresson Relief Route, a $91 million project led by the Texas Department of Transportation, addressed a major commuter safety issue while providing economic benefits to the local community. Before the project, Cresson was divided by a railroad, creating frequent delays for commuters. The new relief route now offers an alternate path over the railroad, connecting both sides of the city and reducing traffic congestion. Local businesses have reported increased traffic as more commuters use US 377. The area had previously ranked among the top 10 at-grade crossings in Texas for crashes, but the new overpass eliminates the risk of delays, improving safety and access to medical facilities, workplaces, and freight destinations in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. The route also supports oversize permitted loads, easing traffic flow, and ensures reliable access in the event of an evacuation from the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant.
