Making traffic signals more visible during snowy weather plays a crucial role in keeping people safe on roadways during winter storms. This $500,000 project by the Utah Department of Transportation included the installation of new heat tape devices on traffic signals statewide to help drivers more see clearly signal lights during heavy snowfalls. The tape provides a heated cap for the signal light that melts away snow during severe weather. Additionally, the tape enhanced safety for service technicians it can be activated remotely by Utah DOT and integrates into existing traffic light wiring – resulting fewer service calls during bad weather.
