Utah Department of Transportation’s Provo 300 South Improved Project

In response to increased use and aging infrastructure, the Utah Department of Transportation, in partnership with Provo City, UT, launched the $20.7 million Provo 300 South Improved Project. This initiative strengthened 300 South Street – a key east-west corridor connecting U.S. 89 with major transit routes and serving buses, cyclists, and pedestrians. The project replaced deteriorating asphalt with durable 12-inch concrete pavement and upgraded sidewalks, drainage systems, underground utilities, and traffic signals. To enhance safety and active transportation, it introduced six-foot sidewalks on both sides, bike lanes in each direction, bump-outs to shorten pedestrian crossings, raised medians, and two bike/pedestrian signals. These enhancements support access to the Utah Valley Express Bus Rapid Transit system and integrate seamlessly with Provo’s expanding multimodal network. By redirecting vehicles who are turning to designated locations and modernizing utilities, the project improves safety, traffic flow, and long-term reliability – minimizing future disruptions. Utah DOT’s close collaboration with Provo City ensured active transportation and community mobility were central to the project’s vision and design.
