West Virginia Department of Transportation’s I-64/I-77 Beckley Turnpike Widening

West Virginia DOT’s $140 million I-64/I77 Beckley Turnpike Widening project allows for more efficient travel through the Beckley area, bolstering safety for motorists and non-motorists. The widening of I-77/I-64 addressed the weaving movements of five interchanges within the project limits, improving response time to the numerous medical facilities and hospitals. By decreasing congestion, the initiative improved access to the Summit Boy Scout Camp, Tamarack, and the New River National Park. The Turnpike experiences large volumes of truck traffic, and this project allows them to make timely deliveries with fewer delays.
