Restore 64 Project Louisville, KY |
A major restoration of Interstate 64 in Louisville, Kentucky was successfully completed in a relatively short period thanks to a bold, never-before-used approach in Kentucky — an extended full closure of the interstate to expedite replacement of 132 bridge expansion joins, 21 lane-miles of riding surface, and 6 lane-miles of asphalt pavement. The six-lane, 3.5-mile stretch of freeway was to be closed for 30 consecutive days to complete work at an accelerated rate. Crews finished work on the entire $61 million project after only 24 days and were able to reopen the highway six days ahead of schedule.
