Utah DOT’s use of innovative construction and bidding methods, especially for bridges was exemplified during the 4500 South Bridge replacement in 2007. The project, which replaced a 3.5 million pound, 172 foot long single-span structure bridge in 53 hours, was witnessed by more than 60 department of transportation executives from around the country, thousands of spectators and the news media – with more than 100 local stories and coverage nationally on CNN and ABC News.
