Minnesota Department of Transportation’s $133 million Hastings Bridge relieved congestion for 30,000 vehicles each day and increased safety with a new bridge that added two travel lanes and improving access for pedestrians and bicycles. The new bridge replaced a roughly 50-year-old bridge unable to accommodate current bridge and river traffic. By constructing pieces of the bridge offsite and delivering them by barge, MnDOT ensured traffic would not be obstructed during construction, and it eliminated the need for motorists to use an alternative crossing.
