Illinois Department of Transportation’s $33.3 million Western Algonquin Bypass project relieved congestion and increased safety conditions on route 31 through downtown Algonquin. By relocating route 31 to the west of the village to a 4-lane highway, traffic was moved outside of the village to reduce congestion while improving conditions for pedestrians. Motorist commute times and gridlock were significantly reduced.
