Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s $3.8 million Sooner State’s First Sliding Bridge project saved taxpayer money and reduced delays to motorists with their new innovative construction technique. Rather than closing the bridge for six months, the bridge was closed to traffic for only 11 days. The reduced construction time saved an estimated $2 million and prevented a 40-mile detour for motorists. The project increased safety conditions and reliability by replacing a structurally deficient highway bridge.
