Colorado Department of Transportation’s $55 million I-70 Westbound Twin Tunnels project widened the westbound tunnel in one of Colorado’s most important routes for tourism, commerce, and access to Colorado’s skiing. Project crews completed the project in nine months, before the winter ski traffic began. The project adds capacity in the future should CDOT widen the highway on either side, and provides a wider and brighter tunnel for traffic to travel safely. The project was completed an estimated $7 million under budget, saving taxpayer money.
