Washington Department of Transportation’s $504 million transit and carpool lanes project increased safety, mobility and access to transit in east King County, east of Seattle across Lake Washington. As part of the project crews widened the freeway to accommodate vehicular travel, added HOV lanes and two in-median transit stations to accommodate over 700 daily buses and provide better connections for passengers. Other project features that improved quality of life include a regional bike-pedestrian path, safer and seismically stable bridges, highway lids and various aesthetic treatments throughout the corridor.
