The old Daniel Boone Bridge was built in the 1930s and was not designed for interstate-level traffic. It had reached the point where the bridge needed regular preventative maintenance. That, coupled with the fact that the bridge carried only three narrow lanes, it often became congested during peak travel times. The new $114.5 million bridge improved traffic on I-64 through the Chesterfield Valley and St. Charles County region, a welcome relief for commuters.
