To enhance safety, improve reliability, and avoid congestion for motorists across the state, AHTD built upon other web-based traveler information sites it had created in years past. Previously, AHTD launched IDRIVE ARKANSAS, which informs the public about highway construction on a map. However, multiple other features have been recently added, such as winter weather and road conditions, welcome center locations, suggested alternate routes, weight restricted highways and bridges, and highway closures. Behind the scenes, the department created a browser-based interface to allow key personnel to put information on the map. AHTD Construction and Travel Information System (ACTIS) allows information to be shared in real-time with the public through the already popular IDRIVE ARKANSAS site, even without a traffic management center. The $60,000 project saves motorists time and frustration while making everyone safer.
