The Broadway Avenue Bridge, the only route over the Boise River on the east side of Idaho’s capitol city, opened to traffic on Sept. 9, 2016, just nine months after closing for the $20.2 million total replacement. The original bridge, built in 1956, had outlived its design life and no longer met modern standards. ITD worked with its many partners to complete construction as quickly as possible. Today, the Broadway Bridge serves as a necessary gateway to the vibrant community that includes Boise State University. Motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists all now enjoy a safer, easier way between the university and the downtown area.
