Utah Department of Transportation—Layton ThruTurns and I-15 Interchange Project

Hill Field Road (SR-232) in Layton has grown to be a bustling regional business, shopping and economic hub of norther Davis County (and home to Hill Air Force Base). But by 2013, traffic volumes had reached gridlock, stalling drivers and economic vitality. Traffic congestion then crept out onto I-15, impacting not just ramps but also the mainline, where vehicles traveling at freeway speeds encountered stopped vehicles. To combat this, UDOT created “ThrU-Turns” on Hill Field Road and two other streets and constructed a Single Point Urban Interchange at I-15 and Hill Field Road, which concentrated traffic signals under the interchange and sped up traffic flow through the whole area. The $38 million project eased that crippling congestion and made everyone a lot safer, especially on I-15.Utah DOT's Layton ThruTurns & I-15 Interchange Project.png
