District Department of Transportation’s E-Bike Incentive Program FY 2025

District of Columbia Department of Transportation’s E-Bike Incentive Program FY 2025 seeks to help de-carbonize the transportation system of the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., by providing accessible, affordable, and reliable mobility options. The $600,000 program helps residents – particularly low-income residents – purchase an e-bike using a voucher worth as much as $1,500. DDOT added that 75 percent of the vouchers were issued to residents enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medicaid, or the DC Healthcare Alliance, with funds applied directly at the point of sale—eliminating the need for recipients to front any costs. Furthermore, the program only allowed those e-bike vouchers to be redeemed at brick-and-mortar stores in the city, ensuring those funds stayed in the community. In terms of benefits, the program is helping shift commutes toward the city’s goal of 75 percent non-automobile trips by 2032, eliminate traffic fatalities, achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and improve quality of life.
