North Dakota Department of Transportation’s Medora Pacific Avenue & Chateau Road project greatly increased the safety and capacity of the intersection between the two roads to handle the recent increase in traffic. Medora is a top tourist attraction in North Dakota and continues to rise in popularity for both residents and visitors alike. North Dakota Department of Transportation decided to widen the bridge to three lanes and construct a roundabout. The $28.4 million initiative delivers safer pedestrian routes, expanded sidewalks, American with Disabilities Act-compliant crossings, and traffic-calming design features that better manage vehicle access. The project also had to be completed ahead of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential library grand opening on July 4 in Medora as part of the America 250 celebration. A third lane improves mobility during peak tourism periods and allows emergency vehicles to move through the area more easily. Funded in part by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the project advances critical infrastructure upgrades and positions Medora to safely accommodate future growth in tourism while delivering long-term benefits for the community and traveling public.
