Missouri Department of Transportation’s Missouri Route 744 and Kearney Street Corridor project installed a High Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) signal for safer crossings and by adding sidewalks, curb ramps, audible push buttons, bus stop pads, and high‑visibility markings. 

The $17.3 million new HAWK signal provides a dramatically safer crossing for pedestrians while maintaining efficient traffic flow. The additional upgrades – like new sidewalks, curb ramps, lighting, and high‑visibility markings – create a more accessible environment for people walking, biking, or using transit. Drivers benefit from smoother, more predictable travel, and the community gains a safer, more reliable corridor for daily trips, school travel, and business access. 

Managing access and optimizing intersections improved traffic flow and reduced congestion along this key airport‑to‑I‑44 corridor. These strategic enhancements leveraged the existing right‑of‑way to create a safer, more reliable corridor for all users. Customers benefit from safer crossings, smoother traffic flow, and more reliable travel throughout the corridor, MoDOT said.
